1. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. Genotype. A CAT OF THIS LINE WAS TESTED AGAINST THE THREE VARIANTS KNOWN AT THE TIME AND CARRIED NONE OF THEM. It showed the dominant blue eye and was negative for DBE-ALT, DBE-RE and DBE-CEL, and was classed on that basis as a new variant of unknown origin. THE ANIMAL IS NOT NAMED TO THIS SURVEY and no laboratory report has been supplied, so the result cannot be entered against any record and the grade `wild-type` cannot be used, because a grade attaches to an animal. THE RESULT IS RECORDED HERE AGAINST THE LINE INSTEAD
2. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. Panel. THREE OF THE SIX KNOWN VARIANTS WERE ON THAT PANEL, BECAUSE ONLY THREE WERE DESCRIBED WHEN THE TEST WAS RUN. DBE-AGO, DBE-cDc and DBE-xHW were named later. So the strict reading of the result is NOT DBE-ALT, DBE-RE OR DBE-CEL rather than a seventh variant, and DBE-AGO in particular is a later-described Maine Coon variant that the panel could not have covered. RETESTING ONE CAT OF THIS LINE AGAINST A CURRENT SIX-VARIANT PANEL WOULD EITHER CONFIRM A SEVENTH VARIANT OR COLLAPSE THIS LINE INTO DBE-AGO. 3. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. Direction. PILLOWTALK CATS BORN BEFORE ROCIRI'S ELVIS CANNOT HAVE INHERITED DBE-RE FROM HIM. Pillowtalk's Bon Aqua carries 68 on a 2008 registration, seven years before Elvis, and Elvis descends from Pillowtalk cats rather than the reverse. Pillowtalk cats bred after and with the Rociri Elvis line can carry DBE-RE, and this register documents such a cross in the 28 October 2020 litter of Sinfonia von Engelswiese. THE TWO STATEMENTS ARE NOT IN CONFLICT: the trait in this line is older than the variant named for Elvis, and DBE-RE has since flowed back into it
4. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. Resolved to a third reading, 18 August 2026. THE QUESTION WAS PUT AS EITHER-OR AND IT IS NOT. This survey first asked whether the Pillowtalk variant IS DBE-RE or is a different allele. THE READING HELD BY THE COMPILER IS THAT THE LINE CARRIES BOTH: DBE-RE, which descends through it, AND A SECOND VARIANT BESIDES. That accounts for the two facts that would not sit together otherwise. It accounts for a cat of the line testing clear of DBE-RE while the line plainly carries DBE-RE elsewhere, because a line is not one genotype. And it accounts for Pillowtalk's Bon Aqua carrying eye code 68 on a 2008 registration, seven years before the cat DBE-RE is named for was born.
5. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. Where the two branches part. Finding 3 gives the common ancestor: LOVE HULEN'S HURRICANE MITCH, MCO d 22, 18 January 1999. His son Love Hulen's Mujaffa leads through McCloud White Enjoy and Olmocabe's Morpheus to Rociri's Elvis and so to DBE-RE. His son Love Hulen's Scoop leads through Rushcutter Brave Heart to the Katrin Style cats, and his daughter Love Hulen's Silver Rhapsody through Timberhills Chelsea to Venezia the Foreigner. MITCH CARRIES NO EYE CODE and shared descent at this depth is common in the breed, so the split is a place to look and not a finding about an allele.
6. PILLOWTALK-FOREIGNER. How the register flags it, and the objection that has to be answered. The two are counted as SEPARATE variants, so every cattery holding both is red flagged. FINDING 2 OBJECTS TO EXACTLY THIS: it records that no cattery holding Rociri Elvis descent lacks Pillowtalk descent, so a flag on the pair fires on every DBE-RE cattery there is and tells a breeder nothing. THAT OBJECTION IS ANSWERED ONLY BY WHAT THE FLAG SAYS. A flag that restates the descent is noise.
