Blue Eyes Directory · blueeyesdirectory.com Record bem-03, printed 30 August 2026. Every animal on this sheet has its own page and its own source at that address.
Roxi
Domestic · DBE-CEL · line: Blue Eyed Maine Coons (Markiss) · both eyes blue · Variant known, this cat untested
Under the variant field this directory proposes, this cat would read DBE 162p. The variant is attributed to this animal from the record rather than from a result on it. The proposal is set out in full here, and no registry issues this field today: it is computed from the record at each build and is not part of any registration.
How this cat is connected to the trait
NO RECORDED PARENT LINK JOINS THIS CAT TO A FOUNDER OR TO A TESTED ANIMAL. What the record rests on instead is the line recorded on it, Blue Eyed Maine Coons (Markiss), which is a source's attribution and not a descent this register can walk; and a variant a source attributes to it, DBE-CEL, which this survey does not adopt; and a variant recorded on the animal itself, DBE-CEL; and no recorded parent at all, which is a gap in the sources and not a statement that the cat had none.
No parent is recorded for this cat in the register, so no genealogy can be drawn. That is a gap in the sources, not a statement that the cat had none. Any offspring the register holds are listed below.
How the variant was established
LINEAGE GENOTYPED, DBE-CEL. NOT TESTED. DBE-CEL IS FIXED BY A DNA GENOTYPE IN THIS CAT'S OFFSPRING. Lazuli carries DBE-CEL and a dominant allele must come from a parent. No other recorded parent of that cat shows a blue or odd eye, so this cat transmitted it. The deduction is certain and no sample of this animal exists.
Computed from the recorded parentage at every build. It sits above a traced descent and below a laboratory result, and it is withheld wherever a second variant sits in the ancestry.
What is flagged
ROXI. BREEDING RECOMMENDATIONS THE PAGE ATTRIBUTES TO PROFESSOR MARIE ABITBOL OF THE VETAGRO RESEARCH LABORATORY. THE RESEARCHER AND THE SUBJECT ARE REAL AND THIS REGISTER ALREADY HOLDS HER WORK: Abitbol and others 2024, 'Different Founding Effects Underlie Dominant Blue Eyes in the Domestic Cat', Animals 14(13):1845; Abitbol and others 2024, 'A PAX3 insertion in the Celestial breed and certain feline breeding lines with dominant blue eyes', Animal Genetics 55; Abitbol and others 2024, 'PAX3 haploinsufficiency in Maine Coon cats with dominant blue eyes and hearing loss resembling the human Waardenburg syndrome', G3; and Abitbol and others 2025, 'Dominant blue eyes in Maine Coon cats: new PAX3 variant and updated phenotypic data', Animal Genetics. BUT THE LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS BELOW IS THE BREEDER'S RENDERING OF THEM AND THIS REGISTER HAS NOT CHECKED IT AGAINST THOSE PAPERS. A real researcher being correctly named does not make a lay summary of her advice accurate. RECORDED AS THE BREEDER STATES IT, ATTRIBUTED AS THE BREEDER ATTRIBUTES IT, AND NOT ADOPTED. WHERE THIS REGISTER NEEDS THE SCIENCE IT CITES THE PAPERS DIRECTLY. THE LIST: do not breed DBE bloodlines with colourpoint or colourpoint carriers; with cats that have white, meaning bicolour, harlequin or van; with pure white cats; with cats born from DBE marriages that are born LATENT with orange eyes; or with recessive odd eyed. AND: 'Mixing, accidentally or not, a dominant cat to another dominant cat EVEN IF LATENT, can cause severe health issues in the first or future generations and should never be done' | THE DANGERS NAMED: 'Deafness (Altai, Topaz), CRANIAL MALFORMATIONS (Ojos Azules, a breed abandoned by the LOOF and TICA in 2004 because of issues). Other things commonly seen in dominant odd eyed is a KINKED TAIL or NOSE SHAPES THAT ARE STRANGE, of form and small or not equal nostrils.' And: 'DOMINANT TO DOMINANT ALSO SEEMS TO PRODUCE KITTENS WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF WHITE EVEN IF THE PARENTS ARE SOLID' | THAT LAST OBSERVATION BEARS DIRECTLY ON MIYUKI OF AERLIN. He is out of Kaena and Lazuli, both of dominant lines, HIS BREEDER CALLS HIM HOMOZYGOUS, and he is SOLID WHITE AND DEAF where both parents carry only a chin patch. THE PAGE PREDICTS EXACTLY THAT OUTCOME FROM EXACTLY THAT MATING, and it predicts it as a harm | THE REGISTER RECORDS THIS AS A BREEDER'S STATEMENT OF PRACTICE AND AS A HEALTH CLAIM ATTRIBUTED TO A NAMED RESEARCHER. It does not endorse it, it has not verified the attribution, and it makes no recommendation about breeding
ROXI. Line and variant. The line Blue Eyed Maine Coons (Markiss) holds more than one variant across its records (DBE-ALT, DBE-CEL).
A flag is not an error. It marks a place where two sources say different things, or where an attribution cannot be made on the evidence held.

The description held
the founder to whom DBE-CEL traces in the published literature. BLACK SPOTTED TABBY ON THE REGISTERED CODE: XXH n 24 68 gives n, black, 24, spotted tabby, and 68 for the dominant blue eyes. There is no golden modifier, which would be written y as in ny, and NO WHITE CODE AT ALL: no 01, 02, 03 or 09. THE TWO SOURCES DO NOT AGREE ON WHITE AND THE SURVEY DOES NOT SETTLE IT. messybeast.com gives him white hind feet and white throat. WHITE HIND FEET ARE WHITE SPOTTING AND THE GOLDEN GROUND DOES NOT EXPLAIN THEM, so either the code omits a white marker or the description is wrong. THE KIT ROUTE THEREFORE REMAINS AVAILABLE as an ordinary explanation of his own blue eyes, and no route is closed off on him. ROKSI IS NOT SILVER AND SEIMUR IS, WHICH SEPARATES THEM AT A LOCUS. Roksi is XXH n 24 68 and Marta EUR n 03 62; neither code carries s, the silver marker. Silver is dominant, so neither parent has an I to pass, and TWO NON-SILVER PARENTS CANNOT PRODUCE THE SILVER KITTEN Seimur is, XSH ns 03 23 68. The coats therefore rule out that parentage independently of how any chart is drawn, and they corroborate C6, which gives Seimur out of Pushok by Eliza.
Evidence grade
Lineage genotyped not tested. THE VARIANT IS FIXED BY A DNA GENOTYPE IN A PARENT OR AN OFFSPRING, and only one variant sits in the ancestry, so which variant this animal carries is settled without a sample of its own

This directory is a working aid compiled from published charts, registry documents and breeder statements. It is not a register and it has no standing of any kind. The grade attaches to the animal, not to the line: a cat whose ancestor was genotyped is line-traced, not genotyped.
